BorPres2 as a Strategic Operation of the Programme

The BorPres2 project has been officially designated as a Strategic Operation (OSI) under our Programme, recognizing its vital contribution to the Programme’s objectives and its transformative potential for the cross-border region.

Definition & Purpose of a Strategic Operation (OSI):

A Strategic Operation is a flagship project that:

  • Directly contributes to the Programme’s core objectives, such as improving cross-border connectivity, fostering sustainable development and enhancing regional cooperation.

  • Reflects the Programme’s vision and priorities

  • Requires enhanced visibility and monitoring due to its scale, importance, and anticipated long-term impact.

Why It Matters:

BorPres2 is not just a project—it is the flagship operation of the Programme and it holds a unique position as it constitutes the entire Programme’s Priority Axis 2. This Priority Axis is dedicated to the Prespa area, recognizing its environmental significance, cultural richness and untapped potential for sustainable cross-border development.

As a Strategic Operation, BorPres2:

  • Delivers a transformative infrastructure project—the new Lemos/Markova Noga border crossing—which will significantly reduce travel time and improve mobility between Greece and North Macedonia.

  • Enhances sustainable tourism and eco-development through a new cross-border hiking trail linking Agios Germanos and Brajčino, showcasing the Prespa region’s natural and cultural treasures.

  • Acts as a model of effective cross-border cooperation, involving key stakeholders from both countries working together toward a common regional vision.

This designation underscores BorPres2’s strategic importance, making it a visible symbol of the EU’s added value and a cornerstone of the Programme’s commitment to connectivity, sustainability and cohesion in the Prespa region
