IPASHIELD in motion is a cross-border health project aiming to improve mobility, rehabilitation and access to quality healthcare for everyone – especially those in remote areas or living with mobility-related conditions.
Activities take place in Kilkis, Thessaloniki, Gevgelija and Strumica, reaching over 126,000 residents in the cross-border area.
The General Hospital of Kilkis, as Lead beneficiary, will establish the state-of-the-art Movement Analysis and Performance Evaluation Laboratory (MAPEL). Equipped with high-tech diagnostic tools, MAPEL will provide biomechanical assessments, performance evaluations, and tailored rehabilitation plans for people with mobility impairments. Kilkis will also lead preventive health screenings across the region, coordinate community awareness campaigns, and host professional training sessions for healthcare staff from both countries.
The General Hospital of Gevgelija will fully renovate its physiotherapy clinic, improving accessibility and expanding treatment capacity for patients recovering from injury, surgery, or living with chronic mobility conditions. It will also conduct outreach activities in surrounding rural communities, offering preventive health checks and advice to residents who often lack easy access to specialist care.
The General Hospital of Strumica will install a modern digital X-ray machine, replacing outdated equipment and drastically improving the speed and accuracy of diagnostics. This will enable earlier detection of bone, joint and mobility-related conditions and reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for specialised imaging services.
The Greek Multiple Sclerosis Society will design and launch an innovative mobile application for people with multiple sclerosis, offering personalised exercise plans, symptom tracking and access to peer support networks. It will also organise cross-border workshops, webinars and community events to empower patients, families, and caregivers with practical knowledge and emotional support.
Together, the partners will deliver a comprehensive package of preventive screenings, remote consultations, rehabilitation programmes and training for healthcare professionals. The project will directly benefit elderly residents, people with multiple sclerosis, those at risk of osteoporosis or arthritis and rural communities facing barriers to specialised care.
By the end of the project, 8,000 people each year will use the upgraded healthcare facilities and 2,000 more will benefit from new e-health services.”IPASHIELD in motion” contributes to reducing health inequalities, fostering social inclusion and modernizing healthcare in a region with historically limited access to specialized care, while building on the outcomes of the 2014-2020 IPA SHIELD project.
