AdvenTour II –Accessible Adventure Across the Borders promotes accessible, inclusive, and sustainable tourism across the Greece–North Macedonia cross-border area, expanding the achievements of the earlier AdvenTour project implemented under the 2014-2020 Programming period. It aims to make nature, culture and outdoor recreation accessible to children, teenagers and young adults with disabilities, while strengthening social inclusion, cultural exchange, and local economies through tourism.
Activities take place in Thessaloniki and the Nymfaio Mountain Training Center in Florina (Greece), as well as in Ohrid and Struga (North Macedonia). Together, these locations form a cross-border accessible tourism route connecting mountain and lake environments.
The YMCA of Thessaloniki, acting as Lead Beneficiary, manages the project and implements major infrastructure works in Nymfaio, including the construction of accessible football, basketball and volleyball fields, and the procurement of adapted sports and camping equipment. The Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) leads communication, visibility and evaluation activities, producing promotional materials, videos, and awareness events, as well as developing an Inclusive Tourism Guide and Replication Toolkit. The Municipality of Ohrid upgrades its lakeside area with accessible infrastructure, including adapted containers for changing and first aid, inclusive beach and fitness equipment, lifeguard stations and mobility devices for people with disabilities. The Rural Development Network of North Macedonia oversees evaluation, best practices and rural outreach, delivering impact assessments, training toolkits and mentoring programmes. The Scout Union Κrste Jon Struga procures accessible accommodation and camping facilities, including adapted beach access equipment, sports and diving gear and leads youth-oriented inclusive outdoor activities.
AdvenTour will deliver three upgraded tourism sites, ten joint cross-border events and 300 participations in inclusive activities and trainings. The initiative expects to attract over 4,000 annual visitors to supported sites, establish cooperation among five organisations, and create new employment opportunities, including one for a person with disabilities.
By combining accessibility, environmental responsibility, and cross-border cooperation, AdvenTour II transforms the Greece–North Macedonia border area into a model destination for inclusive adventure and sustainable tourism, where nature, culture, and participation are open to everyone.
