Soundscape of the Ancient Lyre
Archaeological Site of Europos
Friday, September 18, 2026, at 19:00
On Friday, September 18, 2026, the archaeological site of Europos will serve as the setting for an introduction to the process of reconstructing ancient musical instruments and the sounds of the ancient lyre. The reconstruction of the musical instruments will be presented by the instrument-making workshop “Luthieros Music Instruments,” based in the present-day community of Europos.
Internationally renowned musicians Theodoros Koumartzis, of the group Seikilo, Thanasis Kleopas, and Marios Podaras engage in a dialogue with the site of ancient Europos and, through their music, seek to bridge the city’s glorious history with contemporary artistic creation.
Before the Workshop, archaeologists from the Kilkis Directorate of Antiquities will lead a tour of the Ancient Europos Information Centre and the kiln at the city’s pottery workshop.
The event is organized by the Kilkis Ephorate of Antiquities in collaboration with the SEIKILO Cultural Organization, as part of the 5th Workshop of the project “Ancient Europos – Doiran Lake – Roman Baths Bansko: Crossing Borders for Sustainable Culture and Tourism” under the program INTERREG VI-A IPA “Greece – North Macedonia 2021–2027”.
Educational materials from the ancient Europos Information Centre.
