On Monday, May 18, 2026, International Museum Day, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Kilkis invites you to the archaeological site of Europos to participate in the 3rd Workshop “Ancient Music, Mythology, Wine”, as part of the project “Ancient Europos – Doiran Lake – Roman Baths Bansko: Crossing Borders for Sustainable Culture (acronym: Cultour Crossing Borders)
Visitors will have the opportunity:
- To observe the process of making ancient musical instruments, focusing on the ancient lyre, by members of Luthieros Music Instruments “Anastasios” of the family of Anastasios Koumartzis, based in Europos,
- To listen to ancient compositions, as well as modern melodies performed by the music group Seikilos, using reconstructed musical instruments from antiquity, and also
- To experiment with the ancient lyre, producing your own sounds.
The Ephorate of Antiquities of Kilkis will guide visitors through the “Ancient Europos Information Center”, where the short film “EUROPEANS: THE CITY” produced by the Ephorate with funding from the Ministry of Culture will be screened. Additionally, archaeologists from the Ephorate will present the workshop and craft kiln from the Hellenistic period, as well as the funerary monuments from Roman and early Christian times.
The event is supported by the Municipality of Paionia and the Community of Europos.
